Maumelle Family, We have some exciting things going on here at Maumelle Middle School. Below are some important dates for activities and some things we need your help with. MAPS Testing We took the second MAPS test on February 9th, 10th, and 15th. We have provided students with their data. Please have a conversation with your student regarding their test scores. If students had a 10 point jump we are taking them bowling on March 4th. Below are the dates for the third MAPS assessment. If a student has a 10 point jump on this assessment, we are talking them to the movies. March 8th, 9th, 10th Make-Ups 14th-18th Dave & Busters We competed against Mills Middle School in a reading competition and won. All of our students had the opportunity to compete in this competition. On Friday 2/25, we are taking 150 students to Dave & Busters from 9-12. We are sending home permission slips today. These have to be returned by Thursday 2/24. AVID-College Shirt Day Wednesday 2/23 Computers Please check with your student to make sure that their Chromebooks are charged daily. MILLS UNIVERSITY STUDIES HIGH is hosting the interim assessment concerts today (Tuesday, Feb. 22) and Thursday (Feb. 24). The assessments are for band and orchestra at all PCSSD secondary schools. The concerts are free and open to the public.

Our FBLA students attended a district competition on February 17 at UCA. Reihana Chatmon placed 4th in Career Research and 5th in Public Speaking! She will move on to the state competition in April! Congratulations! Go Stingers!

Spring Good Mourning Grief Support Groups accepting applications for virtual series This spring's Good Mourning Grief Support Groups will be offered by Zoom due to safety concerns with the ongoing pandemic. The "silver lining" to the virtual format is that the groups will be available to families anywhere in Arkansas. Good Mourning Grief Support Groups are for children and teens, kindergarten through 12th grade, who have experienced the death of a family member or friend. Group sessions are offered in the evening once weekly for 8 weeks beginning the week of March 28. There will be a Parent Orientation on Tuesday, March 15. Adults in the family are also invited to participate in adult grief support group sessions. There is no cost to families due to the generous funding of the Arkansas Children's Auxiliary. The 6th grade AVID students were able to tour UALR on February 11. Mrs. Willis-Brooks, our school's AVID coordinator said the students had a great visit. Go Stingers!

Maumelle Middle students had a wonderful time at their first dance of this school year, the Valentine Dance! We appreciate the PTSO, other parent volunteers, administration, teachers, support staff, security and custodians for helping to make this event happen for our students!

In honor of Black History Month, our school is sponsoring an essay contest for all students. Please submit an essay describing an African American in history, in your life or community, who makes, or who made, a positive impact on history and how they inspire you. DETAILS Essay should be between 200-400 words. Essays are due by February 28th at 12pm. Citations are required at the end of the essay.
